COVID-19 Update: Why we halted some new business – a message from our managing director

EBM RentCover is not immune from the impacts of the global Coronavirus outbreak. Like the majority of businesses in Australia, we have had to adapt to the pandemic and make hard changes in the interest of our staff, our landlord clients and our agent partners.

We have worked tirelessly to make sure there is minimal business interruption, however, as time has gone by and the COVID-19 situation has evolved, we have had to implement new strategies.

One of these strategies sits around new business. While we tried our best to continue offering cover to landlords in need, we came to the conclusion that we had to limit the amount of new business we were receiving (effective midnight on Tuesday 14 April 2020).

We know this is not welcome news and like all property managers and investors out there – we want to do all we can to best protect rental properties. However, we just do not have the capability to do this sufficiently, and believe this change is in the best interest of our agent partners and those we currently have insured.

We want to be open and honest about this. And the truth is, with more clients coming on board, we are simply unable to manage the amount of policyholders on our books. So, while we are unable to offer our full product range, we still do have options available. They can be found here

I also want to point out that at the moment, there is still a bit of confusion around what is expected of landlords during this time. The federal government has mentioned a six-month eviction freeze and has asked state and territory governments to settle on the finer details. We have looked at the reforms in each state and territory and you can find a breakdown here.

While we may be unable to offer you the cover you are seeking, we still want to help investors protect their rental properties and will be updating our online Info Centre with tips and information about managing rental properties through this period.
