In addition to her formal duties, she’s known around the office as a bit of a mother figure to staff and for her keen fundraising on behalf of Destiny Rescue.
Her involvement in the charity – which rescues and retrains children in Thailand who have been raped, sold to brothels, drugged or beaten – has prompted the RentCover office to collectively sponsor a rescued teenage girl, Srey Na.
Kathy has supported Destiny Rescue for six years, since she and a friend from church donated sewing machines they had previously used to make costumes for dance schools. She’s visited Destiny four times.
“We try to find enough business from dance schools in Australia to keep the girls in work with their sewing in Thailand,” she said, adding that the charity had diversified to include opportunities for the girls in other fields of work.
Outside of work, Kathy enjoys swimming, jogging, gardening and painting in oils. She’s a proud grandmother to three, and takes an active role in looking after her elderly mother.
“My mum moved in when my children were young and was the built-in nanny when I went to work. Now it’s my turn to be her nanny.”
