Staff profile: Globetrotting Jolene sets down at RentCover

If there’s one word that describes RentCover Executive Assistant Jolene Dawson it’s adaptable.
The Kiwi native lived in five different countries (India, Mauritius, Solomon Islands, Vietnam and Singapore) within seven years before joining Melbourne’s RentCover team in 2013.
While living abroad she notched up experience in accounts and administration; dabbled in photography as a hobby and volunteered for eight months with the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Her broad skill-set and cross-cultural outlook have been ideal at RentCover, where she’s worked for the past two years, first as a receptionist and now as the Executive Assistant to EBM’s General Manager Sharon Fox-Slater.
Jolene says every day at RentCover is different and that suits her to a tee.
“This job isn’t just about insurance, it’s much broader than that,” said Jolene.
“Sometimes I’m focused on events management; other times I’m organising things in office and managing the reception team, or coordinating tradespeople at the building; and I’m always working to support Sharon to ensure she has what she needs, when she needs it.
“I like being organised, so this role is perfect for me.”
Jolene said RentCover’s commitment to its people and training originally attracted her to the role.
“I saw the job advert online and was really attracted to the statement about training and a long-term career focus,” she added.
“This is the first job that I can say I really love – and that’s something I thought I would never say.”
But Jolene’s true love in life is her little boy Reed. Her favourite pastime is taking Reed for a swim or walk or just hanging out with the nine month-old at the park.
Jolene just celebrated Reed’s first Christmas with her family in New Zealand, so she says she’s feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the New Year – no doubt, willing and able to adapt to tackle any challenges sent her way.
