Alex’s driving passions
Until three months ago, Alex Taratu had two passions in life – classic cars and travelling with his partner Tram. “I’ve had a love of old cars since boyhood,” he reveals. “New cars don’t impress.” Earlier this year, Alex took delivery of a 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle from America, which he’s lovingly restoring with a friend who’s a motor mechanic.
He’s hoping the left-hand-drive classic will be on the road soon, but work on his new toy is taking a back seat while he and Tram save for their big end-of-year trip to New York for New Year’s.
Alex’s new passion is for the insurance industry. The 26-year-old joined EBM’s RentCover division as a Client Services Consultant three months ago from the Australian Taxation Office. “It was good timing for me,” Alex said. “I was in the right place at the right time.”
Alex says he’s enjoying the challenge of learning the product and advising clients on the cover that’s right for them, whether for an investment property or a holiday rental. He says he sees insurance as a long-term career. “In the short time I’ve been here I’ve seen how others have progressed and I hope I can do the same. The company is very supportive of its staff,” he said.
Alex feels his experience in jobs with the ATO, in sales for a mining company and in the construction and timber industry has him well-placed to move into the insurance industry. “It’s good background to set me up nicely for my job at RentCover,” he said. “I’ve been dealing with people my whole working life and I find customer service really satisfying.”
Alex believes clients choose RentCover because of the great service they get. “Our product is tailored to the rental market. We work on quick turn-arounds, good products and getting everything sorted as quickly as we can.”
